Round Square Conference - Daly College

Democracy or De’mock’racy?

“Democracy must be built through open societies that share information. When there is information, there is enlightenment. When there is debate, there are solutions. When there is no sharing of power, no rule of law, no accountability, there is abuse, corruption, subjugation and indignation.”

The Round Square Conference hosted by Daly College on 11th September 2021, answered a wide range of questions under the umbrella of Democracy. It enquired into the limitations and weaknesses inherent in democracy which at times borders close to making a mockery of democracy,  along with mentioning how a strong democracy  supports nation building.

With keynote speakers like Mr. Javed Mansari and Mr. Pushyamitra Bhargav, the delegates were enlightened with experts' perspective on topics under Democracy; learning about the true essence of democracy and how it isn't implemented on many occasions with complete correctness.

What heightened this experience further was the baraza session organized for the delegates. Delegates analyzed various case studies and framed opinions on how an ideal leader should be. In addition to understanding different perspectives , an  introduction to the fresh new outlook of baraza teammates on the case studies made a remarkable learning experience.

This conference taught participants to  accept other's opinions, get a good understanding of what a democratic system of government should be like and identify the difference between Democracy and De-mock-racy.

Shikhar students had an enriching and thought provoking session.
