Estimation Jar Activity - Grade II

Estimation is a skill that occurs naturally, but one that needs to be nurtured as the child’s brain develops. Estimating a quantity weaves in mental computations that require problem solving and critical thinking.

Grade 2 children prepared their estimation jars with handful of objects like marbles, pebbles, blocks and Rajma beans for Math class. Everyone in the class took turns guessing or estimating the number of items in the jar. Each student then counted the actual number of items to see whether their estimate was closer to the exact number or not. This interactive activity helped children to build the skill of APPROXIMATION!
