Virtual Reading Fest : BOOKTOPIA

(Celebrating National Reading Day in India )

Recognizing the need to encourage students to steer away from screen time usage and engage in healthier leisure time activities,  Booktopia was a virtual reading fest organised by SAI International School, Bhubaneshwar on 26th June 2021 to honour the National Reading day and explore healthy reading options.   It was a five hour round square event for the students of Grade 9 to 12 with Barazza sessions each having its own genre in addition to the pre-activities of story writing and costume donning up.

In addition to all the fun activities and serious discussions on diverse issues and genres of Literature in Barazza, the highlight of the event was to listen to the Guest Speaker Ellise Marra who turned out to be an inspiration for all the youngsters. The students found it as a  platform to explore their interests in various kinds of books . The goal of the conference was  not only to promote reading but make participants think out of the box, advocate reading amongst their peers, start book clubs in their own social circles, and even plan and implement their own virtual events that encourage reading in their communities.

The constraints of lockdown or virtual platform could not curb the enthusiasm and zeal of the students at all who were glued to their monitors beyond the expected time of closure. Overall it was an experience  to cherish in such trying times. The school delegation comprised  of Lavanya Shrivastava, Aarzu Singh, Mrittika Mitra, Aurvi Pandey, Apratim Bharadwaj and Anushka Sharma escorted by the teacher in charge Ms Suchi Shukla.
