Dictionary Day

Did You Know...

...that pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is the longest word in the Merriam-Webster dictionary? With 45 letters, the word refers to a lung disease.

Dictionary Day is celebrated on Noah Webster’s birthday. i.e. 16th October.  Pranganites used this opportunity to celebrate Dictionary week which extended for few more days as the activity fascinated the children. To enhance the vocabulary and word power of our students, they were given a list of 12 age appropriate words. Students had to look for the meaning of the given word, identify its word class, use it in sentences, and write its synonyms and antonyms. They also illustrated the word wherever possible.

Dictionaries are semasiological. It is a very important tool for anyone who is learning a new language. This is a skill that you need to practice. The event ended with great learnings and a promise to make dictionaries our best friend.
