Sopaanians discover the astonishing world of gems and stones

On 20th July 2018, the Science and Geography departments collaborated with the International Gemological Institute, world's leading independent gem certification and appraisal institute for a Gemology workshop for the students of Grade VII. This age-appropriate programme was exclusively designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of various kinds of gems and stones. Several stones were exhibited, and an interactive presentation was done by the institute which was followed by a quiz on gems. Students were elated to see how gems are certified based on its structural deformation. They also observed these gems under a special microscope. In the end, students were presented with a gem stone-Tiger’s eye and participation certificates. This workshop exposed students to a novel way of learning about gems and rocks that forms an integral part of their curriculum.
